With the damage I wouldn't offer much more than spot silver for it. There seem to be quite a few circulated of this variety and I'm sure you could find a better example out there.

Some thoughts from me ....

First ... This is IMHO a genuine 1915-S Pan-Pacific Half Dollar.

Net mintage of 27,134 coins implies that every genuine example should be viewed with an appreciation of the history behind the coin .... as well as the fact that it survived to today.

That said ... I have been searching E-Pray for 2 years now looking for circulated classic silver halves ... and this particular coin is on it's 3rd round of 28-day BIN!

I have purchased from this seller before and have found them to be honest and reputable. The listing and photos make it clear that the coin has some 'issues'.

Soooo .... IMHO it is horribly damaged and not collectible for my set.

I suppose at the end of the day we each need to make our own decisions on what we will accept ... my personal standards for my circulated classic set are problem free, honest wear coins with original surfaces .... coins that could be slabbed by a top-tier TPG.

You need to decide SDcoinguy what your personal set wants to be ... and if this coin fits then take good cheer that it has been for sale forever on E-Pray and IMHO the seller would likely jump on an offer somewhere at 50% - 70% of their listing price.

Hope that helps.

David

thanks nickel searcher..

for example.. this listing here. http://cgi.ebay.com/1924-Huguenot-W...em53e76bff7b
numismedia says this coin in F12 is $60. now I know numismedia is not that accurate. some say overpriced as well...
regardless.. this listing has it for $90.. I tried making an offer of $40.. which he was probably insulted.. actually it was auto response to reject.. but what can someone expect for an AG-G example... he obviously his AG example is worth an XF40 example...am I way off base here?

Hmmmm ... a problem you are facing here with your pricing dilemma is that you have not fully recognized the supply/demand equation for these truly low-ball well circulated coins ....

Here is the real deal as I see it based on my 2 years of chasing these coins ...

There are hundreds of collectors seeking low-ball examples of these circulated coins ... not a huge number ... but to a true low-ball collector the lower the honest condition the better.

Soooo ... this 1924 Huguenot Half ... net distribution of 124,080 coins .... is a true honest circulated coin in low-ball condition with significant demand.

The seller ... an honest E-Pray broker that I have dealt with ... recognizes this fact and has priced his coin accordingly ... even offers 60 days return to the committed low-ball folks who wish to slab the coin!

Soooo ... back to supply and demand ... there are very few classic silver commemorative on the market in true AG/G condition ... and the demand is high. Hence they are priced way out of line if you use a traditional guide such as Numismedia.

I submit that you might consider targeting coins in the F15 to VF30 range ... these are also available on occassion and will most time be found at a lower cost than the true low-ball coins.

I know that seems backwards ... a higher grade coin at lower price ... but such is the reality of today's low-ball registry set collectors.

Specific example ... on 8/30/2010 I purchased this same 1924 Huguenot in F15 condition on E-Pray for $46.00 ... half the price of the coin you showed in this auction.

Take away message ... if you want true low-ball grade coins that are honest (ie gradeable) ... then you are playing with the big dogs and must be prepared to pay the price.

One more example to make the point ... I have had a 1921 Pilgrim in my E-PRay watch list for a while now ... willing to bet the final price of this F12/F15 example exceeds Numismedia XF40 money ... somewhere in the range of $80 to $100 final sale price!

I've also been watching that same Huguenot ... thinking about a downgrade but can't see paying that much.

Best wishes SDcoinguy ... always willing to help ... now I am off to search some nickels!

Too much damage. I would not bother with it.

After some time, if you are like me, you will become increasingly dissapointed with it, and would wish to move it on.
