Thought this one would be something lots of folks would like to see, so I figured I'd share it with y'all. It's taken me the better part of a year and a half to complete my circulated Walking Liberty half dollar Collection, but I finally did it. Really good feeling!!!!
She's a mite poor in the appearance department, but my whole WL collection will grade somewhere between AG and EF, so this one fits right in.
I judge the grade as AG-3 at best, but, being the key date, I think it has some value even in that grade.
Thanks for lookin', and I'll appreciate any comments you may care to share.

Congratulations on completing your collection!

I agree with the AG3 grade. This coin isn't cheap in any grade. Way to go!!

Congratulations! The 21-D is one great Key date. The mint only used 2 die pairs for the 21-D. The first pair produced 165,000 coins and the second produced 92,672 coins for a total of 257,672. For some reason 49,672 coins never left the mint and was later melted so we have a total mintage of 208,000 for the 1921-D. I think you should be very happy! Enjoy your set!

Congradulations. Now start a second set.
I too have a few complete sets of the Walker halves. All in MS60 or better.
Now the truth is I do have several sets of those complete but far, far from MS in the early dates. I started my sets about 50 or so years ago so that is why some are in decent shape. Always liked those but when they were new I was a kid and not much money so back then a half was like a million dollars to me.

Susan - you're right on this one not being cheap - no matter the grade; however, if y'all will indulge me, I'll tell a little story about how I came to get this one.
I live in a small town of around 2,000, and haven't found any other serious coin collectors here - no pawn shops, nor coin shops either. Folks in this little laid back community just don't seem to show any interest in coin collecting.
I try to make all the weekend yard sales, and local auctions I can in hopes of finding some coins that have been handed down from the previous generation, and, by doing so, I've found a few good deals on some decent coins.
This particular coin was part of a small package offered for sale at a yard sale - most were large cents, but there were a few silver coins in it as well. Old boy acted like he was glad somebody wanted to buy it - said he didn't know anything about coins, but he figured the old copper cents were worth something, and since the other coins were kind of old, he figured they were probably silver, so he charged me $10.00 for the package.
Didn't figure it was my place to try to educate him about coin collecting, so I just paid for them and left. Ever hear that old saying about somebody falling in it, and coming out smelling like a rose? Ten dollars well spent!

just carl - Your response about having completed several sets of the WL Halves created questions in my mind. What do you do with them after completion? And, why several instead of just one?
I'm still relatively new to this hobby - March '05 - but, right now, I'm content to complete one set of everything I can, and, at 58, I doubt I'll see 50 years of collecting.
