Has anyone known someone that has completed a complete collection in mint state of this series? I have never seen or heard of such a collection?

I will work my way up to EF...mint state may take a while

Believe I would love to but you would have to be an Orthodontist or a lottery winner to do it. These are the highest grades I've been able to acquire in the past 10 years: (all are I.C.C.S. with no negative comments) >1870, L.C.W.=EF-45 >1871=EF-45 >1871H=VF-20 >1872H=EF-40 >1881H=EF-40 >1888, OBV.#2=VF-30 >1888, OBV.#3=EF-40 >1892, OBV.#3=F-12 >1892, OBV.#4=VF-30 >1898=VF-30 >1899=EF-40 >1900=VF-30 >1901=EF-40 >1902=EF-45 >1903H=AU-58 >1904=VF-30 >1905=VF-20 >1906=EF-40 >1907=AU-50 >1908-VF-20 >1909=EF-40 >1910, EDWARDIAN LEAVES=AU-55 >1911=AU-50 >1912=AU-55 >1913=AU-50 >1914=AU-58 >1916=AU-55 >1917=AU-58 >1918=MS-62 >1919=MS-62 >1920, NARROW O=EF-45 >1920, WIDE 0=AU-58 All the above mentioned are always a work in progress, however, I have a feeling I'll have most of them for a long time since they will be too difficult to upgrade as a result of limited #'s available and cost! Very nice collection!! I am really considering about going ahead and trying the impossible but not sure how long it would take. It will be very hard since most are already in permanent collections and I for sure will not be over paying for any of them. If I don't do this I want to get back to my 1 cent collection in gem mint state and 100% red.

I am really considering it yes. But will probably take like 20 years.

The 1870 no LCW, the 1872 A/V, the 1890H and the 1894 will be a big challenge but hey it will be fun doing the hunt.

In one case I know SHE bought the collection from some Lord who liquidated his castle and furnishings in the UK along with a complete set of Aussie pre decimal stuff. She was more proud of the antique French furniture than the coins though but wasn't interested in selling when I asked.
She passed on 17 years ago and when I asked the son a few years after that he had no idea where any of the coins went but still had the furniture <insert rolling eyes smiley here>. I just shook my head because the five and ten dollar gold pieces alone (never mind the fifty centers) were astounding yet he had no idea what happened to the coins as sole heir. For all I know they're lost somewhere or in a box in storage that the silver spoon guy misplaced. I see him about every four years or so and I keep meaning to bug him about the coins because it would be a crime if they were lost from collections through sheer carelessness.

Forget about minstate: does anyone on this forum have a complete collection of halves from 1870 to 1921 in any grade?
...I'm assuming that anyone who has the 1921 probably has all of the others:)

kitkat1858: It is certified ICCS MS-65 it is the Ex Pittman example and the only one I would have ever paid such a price for because the other mint state of this date are not for me. Pictures I would but I want to protect my certificate #. I will give you a link. http://www.icollector.com/images/10...504_1_lg.jpg Don't forget that the little black spots are only very noticeable because it is a close up the real coin in hand is just a amazing coin with lots of luster and GREAT eye appeal. The picture does not do it justice believe me. Here is another pic in the ICCS folder: http://www.icollector.com/images/10...089_1_lg.jpg

When you said you had the '21 half, I was expecting some VG example, but this is incredible! What an excellent piece of Canadian history to be able to own.
This coin on its own is better than having the remainder of the Canadian decimal series.

Thanks yes it it a pleasure to own such a fine example. I have had it now for a year and intend on keeping it for at least 30 more years. I own a great deal of Canadian rarities but for the last 2 years almost I have been a U.S rarity collector.

Matrix, what's the Certificate # on the I.C.C.S. Certificate for your 1921 half?

I will be keeping that very private. Why? I don't have it with me it is at all times in my safety deposit box at one of my banks. It has been there since the very first day I purchased it and flew back down to my city.
