Hey all,

I have a few series '06 $20's that I was considering hanging onto, since they seem to have pretty short print runs, when compared to the usual 96 million note runs.

Here is the info on them:
------------------------------------------------------------------
IF 05417507 I, 6.4 mil note run (This one is the most likely to be kept).

IJ 93195572 A, 12.8 mil note run, from the less common DC run.

IJ 19163694 B, 38.4 mil note run.

IK 25332383 C, 25.6 mil note run, from the less common DC run.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Opinions on keepers vs. spenders would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Wow.

55 views, and no responses, huh? Well, that's disappointing.

Anyway, no bother. The IF-I note is staying, the rest are going back out into the wild.

Here is the issue with these. NOT many collect $20's..Ergo the number of views has no bearing on it.

That being said... IF 05417507 I is the keeper in that lot. However it depends on condition as most that collect short runs go after chcu notes.

Collect what you like / want for your collection regardless of what others are doing / collecting.

Edit below

Collecting by short runs is a very limited / small universe of collectors due to the cost involved in such a venture especially for large denomination notes. my 2 cents.

I agree that circulated mid/high denomination short run notes don't have the same following as uncirculated low denomination short run notes. I have sold some circulated short run/ low serial/ low denomination notes for a premium, but they were star notes.

To all that I will add this, I collect 1988A (non-web) notes that not many would be remotely interested in. I do so just for the love of collecting and the fun of trying to find them in circulation. The collection will be complete when I find one block from all 12 districts, that's 288 notes total (not including stars). Who knows even my worthless notes may have value to someone when I get enough of them together.

Ceylon,

My apologies if my last post seemed as though I was taking the lack of responses personal. I really wasn't....I was just surprised/disappointed that nobody had weighed in, at that point.
I'm just starting out with currency collecting, so any and all advice, and opinions on things that I come across (from people who know a whole lot more than me) is very valuable to me.

So, with that said....

I see what you're saying. $20's (and higher) especially newer $20's, will have a very limited following due to the denomination, and, with my particular notes, them being a recent series.

I usually stick to the lower denominations, but sometimes I am able to save higher denom notes, if they come along at the right time, and these $20's of mine came along at the right time.

As far as collecting what I like vs. what other people are doing, that is precisely what I do. If I see something that catches my eye, and I like it, I save it. What somebody has to say about any note that I have, really has no bearing on my decision to keep it, or not.
However, that doesn't mean that I don't value input from other, more knowledgeable collectors.

To add to Nickelman's post regarding his collecting 1988A notes:

I'm doing something sort of similar with the new, 2009 notes. Being that I am from Boston, I am trying to collect chcu examples of all denoms of '09 notes issued for the Boston FRB. Ok, well, I guess it's not really similar, but it kind of is, seeing as most people would not even be remotely interested in them.

Thanks guys, for the input.

jlg1130, No problemo....

FWIW -- I am collecting chcu $5's (2006 Type II -- colorized) and from what I can gather so far not many are into it. There are so many ways to collect currency that no 2 will agree or have similar collections.

For instance on $2's -- I only collect fancy sn's and short run stars. Nickleman on the other hand is collecting $2's by some other criteria (I forget). It's all good.

I can see why you would like them. I happen to really like the newer, colorized, notes. I like the older, small portraits, as well. The notes issued in between those two styles (non colorized, large portraits) I don't really care for. Chances are, if I find something noteworthy of that style, I'll pass on it, or offer it up for sale, to someone who really wants it.....or, just spend it, if it's in bad shape.

Exactly!
That is why I like this hobby. I love seeing people post pictures of their notes. I really enjoy seeing the variation in tastes.

As far as $2's go, I also happen to be a big fan of them, and have held onto some that have caught my eye. I have quite a few Ch-cu '76's, '95's, and '03A's. I also have a few red seal, USN's.

No stars yet, though. I'll be quite happy the day I find my first $2 star.
