Just curious how may of you go out with metal detectors looking for coins. My mother suggested we give it a try after a football weekend in town or after a local fair.

Or I would be curious to hear of any cool finds from metal detecting.

First I am going to suggest to staff to move this thread to the proper forum. Please do not take offense.

Yes I do hunt coins with a metal detector. Do not limit yourself to waiting for a place to be seeded. Go to playgrounds and parks regularly giving each of those places a month or two between hunts. Old houses are a very good place to hunt, the older the better.

As you can see in my signature line, my oldest detector find is am 1803 large Cent. I have also found an 1837 dime, an 1851 Half Dime, a dozen or so Wheat's and as of Dec 31, 2010 $132.47 in clad (2 years worth) + some clad this year also. Would have to pull up the spread sheet to see how much but it is only a couple of $$$ so I am not going to bother.

The aforementioned spread sheet is helpful in tracking finds. When, what, and where are the three most important. elements of it. Well to heck with it I'll get a snag-it of it and post it right now.

By the way I left out the where column in this post. In my area we do a lot of relic hunting and locations are a closely guarded secret. Just like a good fishing hole, never tell exactly where it is or your buddies will fish it out.

Good one Tim that's why I give a location but never an exact location, over here they follow you from the van parks just keeping out of site which has happened to me,I've gone back and the place has been hammered but still they didn't get it all.
By the way Ram96 I'm a prospector chasing gold nuggets

Just noticed that I left off the column for halves in this years spread sheet. Guess I should add it in case I do happen to find one.
