Is this a steel penny? 1961 I just came accross this, it has a weird rim to it and it is really silverish looking. I don't know what is on the outside, my guess is that someone could of made it a necklace? Or maybe some fake proff? Puzzled again. And sorry for so many noob questions. Thanks again for everyone's support. Also it does stick with a magnet.

A broken bezel is attached to the coin. I am having a hard time figuring out the color of the cent, the first pic looks coppery while the last pic looks silvery. However, it does not really matter either way as any abnormal color would almost certainly be due to a plating job to match the jewelry.

Yeah--it could be the bezel. A copper coin, plated with enough nickel, will also stick to a magnet.

I've run across quite a few ones that have been chrome electroplated.

It looks plated to me, probably to match the jewelry.
