Do you have a coin purse made of kangaroo fur? My wife picked one up at a garage sale and it had a few Australian coins it, but she just like the purse. I don't believe the coins were anything great, mostly from the 1980's.
Sorry I took so long to answer Have you checked to see if the purse has any seams? If there are no seams and only a draw string, then the purse is a kangaroo scrotum-(very common coin purse sold at gift shops. You may not want to tell the wife! If you don't want the older circulated coins let me know- I buy them to give to kids to get them interested in AUSTRALIA & it's history/

A kangaroo scrotum?!? You're kidding, right? Why do I have the feeling you're not... [:0] Give in to the darkside, Susan. I did, and I'm so much happier now. Never thought I'd admit this, but there's more to life than Morgan dollars.... Yikes! Did I really just say that? Rachel [:p]

We'll just keep that amongst ourselves. Who knows what would happen if that got out?

I have heard of such purse's but this one is seamed and has a metal clasp closure. My kids have the coins, they like the kangaroos on them.

rggoodie, Apparently the kangaroo's didn't have much say cocnerning their part in this enterprise, did they! Well at least they were put to good use! You know what they say, "Waste not, want not!" I almost want one as a converstion piece! I could keep a couple of my favorite jewels...er...coins in it!!! It would be non-stop laughs around the unsuspecting!!!

I've heard that the kangaroo scrotum bags are popular with prospectors because there are no seams for their gold flakes to fall through.

Mostly a tourist piece now There are no seams but some have ties or snaps at the top nad the newest tourist modes are branded with some statement like "The Lucky pouch Genuine Kangaroo, Made in Australia" Question where else would a kangaroo pouch (scrotum) be mad if not in Australia?

Well, kangaroos also live on Tasmania and New Guinea, and probably other islands in the vicinity of Australia (although, I'm not sure about New Zealand). Now, if you're wondering where other marsupial (pouched animals) scrotum pouches could be made, the answer would be pretty much anywhere (e.g., Opossum in the U.S.). The same goes for macropod (a classification of large-footed animals) scrotum pouches, if you were wondering about that as well (e.g., Kangaroo Rat in U.S.). ;) Now, isn't that more than you ever thought you'd learn on a coin forum? :) ~neuron
