It's not a very attractive coin. Well, the obverse anyways.I like the reverse; the torch always looks nice every time I see it. But are they really going to change the design or is this just opinion?

I think they should put either polk or mckinley on the the dime and have a image on the reverse that symbolizes the expansion of the United States, for example an eagles wings across the pacific for McKinley or an eagle with wings streched across the USA for Polk

I want a little more relief. The relief on these new coins are so shallow that they almost look like etchings. Compare any coin from the 60's and compare the relief to a new coin. That deep relief is where a lot of the beauty jumps out of the coin for me.

You will never see circulating business strike designs with strong relief again. It is because of the modern high speed Schuler horizontal presses that can strike up to 850 coins/minute. Low relief enables high speed coin production and is gentler on the dies while coins with a higher relief shorten die life and must be struck more slowly. It is not just US coins either. Look at all of the circulating Euro designs- just as flat or even flatter than US designs.

Good explanation biokemist! I would agree with the desire for more relief; do they really need to punch out these coins at that rate? It seems like we produce more coins than we need now, with such wide-spread use of credit and debit cards in everyday life. I guess it's all about reducing costs, as you say...
