Hi, I inherited a small accumulation of unidentified Persian coins amongst which is a number of copper civic issues, all with a lion and sun motif. I'm assuming they come from the Safavid period (1501-1722). Despite looking through Richard Plant's book Arabic Coins and how to read, them I've been unable to decipher the dates of issue or mints, which I believe should be on the reverse (one of them is too worn to decipher anything). I've attached photos and would appreciate any help in identification from anyone skilled in reading Persian calligraphy.

The two largest weigh around 18g the samller 9g.

Thanks

I buy all that is available of this type of numismatic material. I don't understand it, but I do let it 'bug' me until I can properly attribute it. This type of 'bugging' can get at me for years. Patience is a good thing.

This sort of stuff, for me, is the fun of numismatic challenge; as long as I feel the price is right at the time of purchase.

Despite having Richard Plant's book too, I will need to meet a friend who can read Arabic. That can be of some help. Unfortunately, the inscriptions on the coins are often abbreviated, or are in some type of classic form, and so the reader of Arabic can only be of partial help.

Hi . Persian Language are close to Arabic and can read, but sometimes the meaning is different , For these coins from the bottom is always written under the line (struck)
Written above the line name of the city
there is site on the internet you can compare images of coins with names of cities

I do not know Can I put the link or not
