I have an old coin whish appears to be a "cob" coin. After researching online I have found none that have the same depiction on both sides, nor does it have any date or assayer stamps on it. It has 32 circles/dots around the border and is irregular in thickness as if it were 2 separate pieces of what appears to be bronze. There is a cross-like symbol that has a lion in the northwest and southeast quadrants and 2 castles in the northeast and southwest quadrants of the coin. There is a protuberance on the edge as if it were filled in from a model or something. Can anyone help me find out what this coin really is?

Lions / Castles indicate Spain, but without a picture it would be hard to be more specific, at least for me.

Without seeing a picture, all the indications you've given so far indicate to me it's likely to be some kind of "tourist copy" of a Spanish colonial coin - either a "pirate piece of eight" or a "pirate dubloon". I'd take the apparent seam and nodule on the rim as evidence of a cast copy.

The Spanish colonies apparently didn't make any "cob-style" copper coins, not till the 1800's anyway. The Philippines and Spain proper both did, though the designs don't really look "cob-like".

Does it look something like this one?

This one's purporting to be a Spanish Peru 8 reales dated 1736. It's got a seam so wide it looks like you could easily separate the two pieces with a blunt knife.

The expert in cobs (he also wrote a reference book on them) is Daniel Sedwick. Here is a link to his site:

If you can't find what you need on his site, email him. He is very friendly and easy to talk to. He has helped me out quite a bit in the past.

Thanks SAP! It does resemble that coin you posted. However, the border stops at the "dots" and has no text around the edge. It is very worn and look way too circular to be this old of a "rough" type coin as that's all I've seen these coins to look like. I think I have a knock-off of an old one unfortunately! Thanks for your help though! I appreciate that!
