My wife found an unusual dime in a roll at work. I'm having trouble categorizing the error. It looks like it was stuck through a late stage die cap, but the incuse image of the reverse on the obverse seems a little too distinct. Other examples of this type of error don't seem to have the same distinct impression on the obverse. E Pluribus Unum is quite readable, although slightly askew and stretched. Here are pictures:

Could this be a blend of errors, or am I off base entirely? Any help in valuing this coin would be greatly appreciated as well.

hmm this is a toughie, it looks like a combination of an error, and PMD.

that definitely is a die cap, but that reverse image confuses me, that looks like a hammer job.

I thought it was a vice/hammer job at first too, but then the alignment of the impression is dead on and there is no deformation on the reverse.

That would be a late stage brockage. It is still struck through a capped die but the die cap is also still able to transfer the reverse detail. This one is interesting though because it appears that the die cap is deteriorating but the brockage is still present. I would estimate value at $25-40, towards the top end if the date and mintmark are legible.

As I said on another forum, it is struck through a late stage capped die.

It's a late-stage brockage. The floor of the die cap was thin enough to let a strong ghost image of Roosevelt bleed through.
