I want to buy the national parks quarters in PR70 condition and want advice on how to go about it. I can buy an NGC pr 70 set for $128.00 or would it be best to buy the us mint silver proof set for the standard $15.00 and then have them graded Hoping they are at 70 grade?

I wouldn't take a chance at "hoping" you'd get 70's from the mint.....might as well buy the graded set or find them through ebay.

I agree with LowLife. Go with the set already slabbed. Most coins submitted will end up grading PR-69. Plus it will cost you each coins submission fee and shipping fees to see if your coins would grade PR-70. You might also have a combination of both PR-69 and PR-70 then you will end up with a mixed graded set.

Look at the pops report and see how many have been submitted and what percentage came back as 70's. Now you need to assume that most of them were pre-screened and sent in hoping for the 70. So if 20% came back as 70, and you need five coins to come back as 70, you would have to figure on submitting a minimum of 20 sets to be fairly sure of being able to assemble at least one 70 set. That's 20 sets and 100 grading fees to get the 70 set you want. call it around $2000 for the set. (Of course you do get to sell the rejects and get at least part of your money back.)
