Hey everyone...
Been thinking about getting a coin as a gift for my father... What's the coolest coin from 1960?

Just to claify... He was born in 1960. I'm not looking for a 60's coin... I'm looking for something from 1960 exactly.
I was thinking maybe a proof set would be pretty cool?

Proof set is perfect, IMHO. I've gotten various coin-related gifts; born in 1944, one year I got C, N, D, Q, from '44 (kids couldn't come up with the scratch for a WLQ, I guess!). Another year I received a plastic-encased set of WWII war coinage, very cool. Any dad would love something that had that much thought in it...

I suppose it's just whatever you think he'll like but I've always been partial to the Franklin half dollar.

Proof set would be cool esp so if in a nicer case than the plastic. I really think coins in frames look great.

I would lean towards the proof set myself.

If not the proof set, then I have to agree with everyone else, the Franklin half. It is the only series coin minted in 1960 that is not still being minted... Plus there is just a certain cool factor about it.. Yes, I know they tweaked the nickel and quarter, and the penny has a new reverse. It isn't the same.

Now I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but I surely am aiming for the proof set. I agree I think it's the best choice... You get some beautiful silver coins and one that no longer exists!
