Hello everyone. Me and my grandmother were going through some old family pictures and documents, and she found a big coin which she gave to me so I could identify it. Now I know nothing about coins, but with the help of a friend, I've found out that this is some sort of a Maria Theresa Thaler, or a Maria Theresa memorial coin. Is there anyone here who could help me find out exactly what this is, and what the inscriptions say?

Thanks in advance :)

Not actually a coin but a medal. But a nicely designed one. :) Don't know anything about the piece itself, but the reason for issuing it was apparently the centennial (1770-1870) of the Mining Academy in Schemnitz (today Banská Štiavnica in Slovakia). See here:

(The first one is in German but more detailed, the second one is in English. - Edit: Copy and paste the URLs.)

Hi Christian, thanks for your helpful reply! It did seem a little big for a coin, so I guessed it was a medal of some sort, hehe. Have a good day :)
