Warning: a Canada 1889 quarter (raw) has popped up for sale on E-bay that I feel is a counterfeit coin. See E-bay I.D. # 380352114802

Why do you feel it's counterfeit?

The leaves on the Reverse are porous, consistent with a die cast mold made out of lead. Also look at the rim on the Reverse, too strong for a coin that grades a VF-30. A rim with that much wire edge would be consistent with an AU coin.

It's a Chinese fake all right.
But it's not die cast or porous or made in a lead mold
The most telling sign is that it is Obverse2,which does not appear on 1889 25cents
Have you reported it to ebay glenzy?

Beware-Of-Counterfeit-On-E-Bay>canada,-1889-Quarter.
Note the mark in the hair,on the neck, and the broken serif of the T
These are all markers for Chinese couterfeit Victoria 25cents,
even when the OBV2 is appropriate to the date

Hi DBM, yes I sure did! E-bay has been made aware as of now and I spoke via e-mail to the seller who states that this coin was part of an Estate auction lot. He states he will have a Pro-numismatist look the coin over and to confirm same.

removed......replaced by newfie 1917 half. If you learn to use the markers for the Chinese fakes.....guessing as well as misinformation will stop.

I urge all Members to be vigilante when browsing E-bay. Be on the lookout at all times for suspicious behaviour, counterfeits, shill bidding, questionable sellers, etc. After all, it's our Hobby (& addiction) that we have to protect!
