Has anyone seen one before? I don't collect this series so I am uneducated in this subject. I saw one this weekend. It was silver, at least in color, and was 1940. Had the correct design. It was in a flip and I had no way of weighing it.
The owner asked me about it, wondering how much it was worth. I didn't have a clue but asked if he wanted to sell it. He said he didn't but was looking for info on it.

It is probably worth around the price of a brown cent, maybe 3 cents. These silver and gold cents have been made in large numbers from various chemistry experiments that were being done when I taught a college chem class in 1967.Here is a link to a common explanation, others can come from the net. Silver and gold ( brassy color) cents can be made. After they get bored, they spend into circulation as they are damage.

As long as copper is the main component, it would also work on world coins.

I'd like to see photos and have a weight for the coin. I have other coins from that era struck on the wrong planchets.

Yeah, I'd like to have weighed it somehow. I saw it on a trip to the coast over the weekend. We may go back this weekend. The wife spotted a piece of furniture and past on it. Now she's having second thoughts. If I do go back, I'll bring a scale and post what I find out.

Here's the obverse of the 943. I'm tempted to dip it before sending in for certification by the Canadian TPG with nice holders and who will recognize errors. Thoughts?

Don't dip it.
Will they be able to tell which foreign planchet it is,and thus the composition?

Many of my errors (27) were bought last year from one seller who inherited them about 24 years ago. I was very lucky to get them, only my visa card suffered, thank God for paypal.

I see. Thanks Zonad. I don't blame you. My visa would have done the same.

I was kind of hoping some were found in the wild
Oh well. Maybe there are some out there somewhere.
