I believe I have a Russian Silver coin (about Silver dollar size); has double headed Eagle on back. Also, have pre-Shah Silver Rial (half dollar size) Are these worth more than smelt value; have about 10-15 of each. Identified - moved to World Coins forum - Sap

Hello and welcome. A less glary pic of the Iranian piece might help narrow down the ID, but I don't think it's a coin.

The finenesses of the two coins are different; the thaler is .833, the Iranian is .900. You'd get a more accurate melt value if you weighed the two piles separately.
Or rather than weigh them, count them. Melt value of the thaler at a spot price of $35 is $26.30 each, the melt for the five-kran is $23.30 each.
The thaler s a restrike - it doesn;t actually date from 1780 - so is only orth bullion value. The five-krans should be worht more than their bullion value, especially the ones in better condition.

to CCF. with all. They made the Maria Theresia for 1780 on to ... The reason the date is the same is because the coin was used in trade with the Ottoman empire. So to keep them happy and accepting the coin, the date was not changed. There are minor differences between them and as such differing rarities. This site http://www.theresia.name/en/svariants.htmlis a good reference to determine if any fall into the rare catagory.
