I *think* it's a gothic florin , but in really crummy shape, any thoughts on it , or values would be appreciated!

You are right. This is a 1879 (roman numerals on the obverse) Gothic florin or 2 shillings coin from Great Britain. Coin is made from .925 silver. My catalog doesn't have a grade lower than fine and that lists for $21.00. I would call this a melt coin due to the wear and damage. Since silver is so high the melt on this coin would probably be worth more than the numismatic value.

The poor man's Gothic Crown.

When it comes to Gothic florins / crowns, I am a poor man. I have a 'Godless' Gothic florin of 1849 in good EF, (only the tiniest amount of wear under 10x glass), and a Gothic florin of the type pictured here in VF.

But I don't have the crown. Pity.

Even the florins get to be worth some real value in higher grades, because they saw so much circulation. For a period of more than two deacads, their issue replaced that of the half crown. Higher condition Gothic florins are scarce.

I agree with mmorgans22's comments.
