I received this hammered silver coin of the Anglo-Saxon King Eadgar 959-75, as part of a small bequeathment of mixed coins & stamps. Unfortunately most of the 'good items', of course, have been said to be fakes by a friendly 'expert'. Personally, I think this is a very nice coin and am v.pleased that it is mine!
I do not think this coin is a fake, but I would appreciate your comments!
One side reads:EADGAR.REX
The moneyer: HERIG***ERMO
(So I have been told!)

Whether it is genuine or not I cannot say, but in English Hammered Coinage it could be number 741, and there is a moneyer named Heriger mentioned.

This would put it in the date range 959 - 973.
