I don't know whats going on over there but something is happening that we aren't getting the whole story about (even if someone came in and cleaned house because they were unhappy about something)

Apparently there is a behind the scene "Power Play" going on? One thing is for certain I don't buy the politically correct answers the boys will throw out for WE the flock as there is something rotten going on at ANACS. They should have stayed in the Midwest and built off of their fine reputation they had here!

Break out the Snickers: "Not going anywhere for awhile..." There's been a number of interesting things that happened this year starting with the 100 point grading discussion at the FUN show. A discussion that basically ended with a "bite-me" from coin collectors. There was a photo in 1/23/06 CoinWorld that I don't think I'm ever going to forget. It was a group photo of the Top Guns at the discussion: James Halperin, Julian Leidman, David Hall, David Bowers, Scott Travers, and Don Kagin. I don't think I have ever seen more somber and even perplexed looks on faces of people. There was just recently, the merging of ANR with Stacks. Has anything like that ever happened before? Why? There was just recently PCGS applying to register the term "First Strike" as a Trademark. Followed by NGC's petition to the Trial and Appeal Board to cancel it. And I always thought the Teamsters had the trademark on "First Strike." On the matter of "First Strikes" someone in Florida has just filed a class action suit against NGC. http://www.coinworld.com/news/cwhl.asp?uID=&hlID=1There's Tom Noe. Scandals are never a good sign of things to come in markets. Neither are "records" that are more flash than substance. The MS70 2003 Lincoln comes to mind. There was a remarkable, (IMO) if practically un-noticed comment by Ron Guth in 3/27/06 CoinWorld. "The goal in grading is not to find every defect on a coin, but to find those flaws that affect the visual appearance of a coin when viewed by the unaided eye." With all due respect to Mr. Guth, it's rather normal for collectors to get really picky when grades and prices keep going up. IMO, the more picky they get, the more they are perceiving gradflation. Then there's James and Miles. This has to be the strangest event of all! ANACS can replace James, IMO, without a lot of trouble. James may be a very intellectual person, but is that really necessary? I think any reputable coin dealer who's good in business can take over. Miles is another matter. He seems to have this reputation of "The Natural"--the "gifted." There may not be another Miles out there. David Bowers, IMO, is also "The Natural." How many David Bowers types still standing, are there in Numismatics? All buckled up?

All of that, and you never even mentioned the ANA soap opera. Yeah, I got my seat belt fastened.

I think the PCGS and NGC thing about the First Strike designation should fall through (not only because First strike is totally bogus)its because PCGS used the wording "First Strike" and NGC uses the wording as "First Strikes" with the "S". I know its a small difference but should be enough from having the lawsuit stick in my opinion

Indeed, I probably should've since it was a major event but it was also in 2005. For 2006 the ANA's major farcical event would be their idea of selling grading endorsements. Equally strange, why would someone like PCGS need the blessing of the ANA for anything?

Has anyone obtained confirmation of either Miles or James leaving ANACS? So far, it appears it's just a rumor which is cycling around and being repeated with no formal statements from ANACS or anyone else "in the know".

The people talking about it are in a position to know - employees of PCGS and ANACS, and dealers of sufficient stature to be informed of such moves. Laura Sperber is known for ego, but not known for spreading BS, and regardless of the other people talking about it at the other forums, if she's already exploring the reasons then it's a done deal.

Susan called James on his cell phone and spoke with him, he is definitely not with ANACS anymore.

I agree Laura may not be the friendliest dealer or have the best customer relations but when she says something like this you can pretty much go ahead and start writing the book and just wait for the final chapter when the guys want to go public with it because if she wasn't positive she wouldn't mention it. And about customer relations, she doesn't have to have good standings with anyone, she has people on her staff that take up her slack and she never has to deal with the customers (which I think is the best thing she has done for her company) she is one of the people who either you love her or hate her, there is no in between

That's pretty solid confirmation. With this kind of turbulence, is there any future for ANACS? I've already realigned my thinking on my next submissions and just applied for NGC associate membership through my ANA membership.

An ICG employee at another forum just announced that James Taylor will return to ICG as CEO, starting January 1st.

WOW!!! I am surprised they took him back, but I guess the guy that replaced him wasn't doin as good as they thought he would either. Now I wonder if we will be sayin "ICG, ICG ,ICG is the place to send your coins" if James still visits the forum from time to time

Either that or ICG restructured to give the existing head another position to make way for James to return to ICG.
