Your little coin is from Cambodia, a base-silver 2 pe dating from the Vietnamese protectorate, circa 1850-1880. Example on zeno.ru. The square-in-a-square is the Chinese character ji, "fortunate" or "lucky", and only appears on later versions of this coin. Earlier versions, made of finer silver, date back to the 1600s and do not bear this character.

I this case, it was easy: I have one, which I paid $5 for back in 2005. And there were a couple dozen more just like it from the dealer's scratchtray I picked mine out of, many of which are still sitting there in the dealer's scratchtray where I see them every time I visit that dealer.

The example you gave shows a coin where the markings are an indentation. Where the coin I have the markings are raised. Does this mean mines a fake?

No, they're raised on both. It's just an optical illusion caused by the lighting-from-below on the scanner used to take the pic on zeno.
