This is called a fin. The pressure from the strike caused metal at the edge to flow up between the collar and the die to form the edge. This can be caused by several things including higher pressure than normal from the dies or a thicker than normal planchet. A fin this high is collectable. Nice find. As far as value, I can tell you I just bought a Jefferson nickel similar to this off ebay this weekend for 99 cents with free shipping so they don't appear to bring very much.
