Cool chrisild, I didn't know you're from Germany. It's my dream to visit that country.

I also collect German coins. Have one from Prussia, one from Bremen, one from Bavaria and one from Saxony.

Germany makes up the biggest number of coins in my collection. It's forefront in both of my main collecting interests: WWII era money and Notgeld.
And I'm with 10xloupe; I badly want to visit Germany. My ancestry is German and my other hobby is home-brewing beer, so I have to make it there one day!

We all collect what we enjoy. Most of you guys seem to focus on German Empire (Deutsches Reich, 1871-1948) coins, I primarily collect coins from the Federal Republic of Germany (1949-today), others from the euro area, and some more (modern) Western/Central European coins. Admittedly I do not spend that much on coins any more, also because of my traveling budget. Have been to 28 US states so far (counting generously, hehe), and plan to add some more next year. Canada was scheduled for this year but that did not work out and will have to wait. OK, one time we went from Skagway, AK into BC on a tourist train. But I did not even get a stamp in my passport. ;)

I collect world coins, so naturally Germany is a part of my collection. It is my fourth largest collection after U.S.A, Australia and Great Britain, mainly because I like to try and collect by mints and year. My Germany collection... http://www.coincommunity.org/galler...m=295&page=1Steve

I live in The Netherlands next to Germany, and I live in a small bordertown were a lot of German people come... So I collect German coins if I want or not Last week my roommates and I found a big bag of coins in our old house (previously a "bar" runned by foreign drugdealers ) We have found some other things here as well, also some german banknotes a year earlier! So we knew there had to be some more My point is that we have found a lot of coins (from 1950 - 1999) at least 1000x 10 pfennig coins, some 50pfennig coins, a lot of 1 & 2 pfennig coins. And a handfull of Swiss coins. Funny thing is that I know it is still worth money, since you can trade it in at the German bank. So all in all it was way over 100 Deutsche Mark that we found, with many of them in very nice condition. So I can add a lot to my collection

Great find! And it is good to know that you did not turn them all in but saved a couple. You actually saved their "lives" - what goes to the Bundesbank will be melted down. It is funny - almost every time I go to the local Bundesbank branch office (to pick up a new €2 or €10 issue), there are people with pre-euro coins or notes. These days, however, they are usually found when somebody moves or dies. Sometimes store have "pay with your leftover DM cash" campaigns, and the other day I saw such signs at pretty much every booth of a local Christmas market.
By the way, the Mark and Pfennig circulation coins were minted until 1996. Pieces with later dates (1997-2001) were made for BU sets and proof sets only ...

I saved them all... for now! But as a friend of mine found them first, he will decide what happens to them eventually. I will only pick out the ones I like, and all the Swiss coins The rest will probably be sold online, because I don't want them to be melted down. But my friend rather wants to see cash in Euro's, which I can understand. ofcourse I will take out the best ones, and now that you mention the dates (1997-2001) I will take a look for those as well!

I just recently completed my set of one of each circulating coin from the Federal Republic with a 1951 2 Mark. I am close to all DDR, and have about 40 types from before 1945 (which is NOT close to all) Since 2001 I've been picking through change for a date and mint set of cents. It is good to hear from those of you who are selling your finds to collectors rather than melting!

Even ignoring German state issues, Notgeld, POW camp money etc, the common issues after 1871 represent by far the largest part of my modern world coin collection.

worldnumis, those are two scarce and interesting coins you have there. The Anhalt Doppeltaler is quite appealing, it has been on my wish list for many years. Love those big Doppeltaler.
