I have about 30 low grade German bronze and copper coins from the 18th and 19th centuries. Most of them came from dealers' junk boxes. Lots of fun and find in this way, for not much money.

I had a little project on German coins a while back - you can see it here http://www.diadumenian.com/Congress...princes.htmlthere is also a thread on it somewhere I've a couple of blanks to fill in in the secondary objective but the main one is done. It should be possible to click around the site to uncover other coins and info though there are a few dead ends too. I must make time to update it

Here's a couple of my favorite: The German empire Marks and 1/2 Marks tone amazingly. The highest denomination piece I own... Shows how unbelievably out of control inflation was in the post WWI era, the notgeld issued by Westphalia is stunning 1918 Frankenthal 5 Pfennig Notgeld, another really cool design

@Bacchus2, I love your collection of Thalers. I'm also trying to build one...so far I have only about 12 thalers, plus some 5 Marks, 3 Marks etc. Here are 3 from my collection.

'jdmern', that is a nice 50,000,000 Mark piece you have there. My favourite Notgeld pieces are the porcelain ones from Saxony.

Nice mark chequer! The German empire marks are wonderful in the fact you can find excellent quality pieces for very reasonable prices!
Medieval , thanks for the compliment, the porcelain pieces are very nice but my favorite are the wildman bronzes... Nice to see another Notgeld collector on here! It is amazing how some the Notgeld issues have some of the most boring designs, while others have truly fantastic and beautiful designs!

Quote: another Notgeld collector Not really a specialised Notgeld collector but when I come across some pieces at a reasonable price I pick them up. Here some of those which I still haven't catalogued:

Nice little group there! The brassy looking one that drifts furthest to the right I have not seen before, looks like maybe a private issue?
The aluminum one that drifts furthest to the left I have not seen either, looks like a Dresden factory token?
Thanks for sharing!

I don't specialise in German coins but I have accumulated quite a large number over the years. In 2000 I was working with an English tour operator in the beautiful village of Oberammergau in the Bavarian Alps, looking after tourists who had come to see the famous Passion Play. This was less than two years before the Euro was introduced, and I tried to get as many pfennig and Mark coins from circulation as I could! I have also some older German coins, bought mainly from dealers' junk trays in the UK. This is one of them - a silver Hindenburg 5-Mark from 1935:
