what is 30.000? $30 or $30,000?

either way, that is incorrect, a 1943 steel cent is worth about $0.25

you can get a really nice MS one for about $5

Could you be referring to a copper 1943 penny? One of these would be worth a lot more than 25 cents

Only if it's copper and not steel.

A 1943 COPPER cent is worth big money because it is an error, only a few dozen are known to exist. Of course, post-mint copper-plated examples are quite prevalent and basically worthless. As Adam stated, normal steel 1943s are cheap and plentiful.

Yes a 1943 penny can be worth $30,000 or MUCH MORE if it is copper. Only about 40 copper cents were minted.

The vast majority of 1943 pennies were minted using Steel with a Zinc coating and have a whitish appearance

Warning - there are tons of faked 1943 copper pennies so if you find one make sure it does not stick to a magnet. If it doesn't, check the date carefully to make sure it is not a 1948 with some metal gouged out. If it passed both those tests, you can send it over to ANACS for verification.

At $30,000 for a genuine one, my very first reaction if one was offered to anybody, would be to advise to have it checked out and get three independent professional opinions on it.

That sort of price attracts the very best forgers. Read Charles M.Larson's book on the subject, and you will understand why.

They are one of the most messed with coins around. I've got over 2,500 of them. Used to have more but started giving them away at Holoween.
They come as plated with Zinc, Tin, Chrome, Brass and the most fun ones are plated with Copper. I'm trying to accumulate an entire roll of the Chomed ones but those are the least common of the messed with ones.
For values, as already noted, about $0.25 each for almost any of the normal ones. As high as $10 for an Uncirculated one. And if you look around you'll find those little plastic things with all three Mints from 1943 in them as a so called collector's item.
