Ive been searching through my world book of coins for some time now trying to discover the identity of these coins. I believe the one with the square hole is from china, because china has coins which are similar. The other dated 1881-1981 looks to be a token, however I am not sure of ether's origins or value. Please share any information available that might aid in the discovery of the coin/tokens identity. Thanks everyone.

The top one is an old Chinese cash, of the Da Guan period (1102-1111 AD) of the reign of Song Dynasty emperor Hui Zong. Despite being 900 years old and considered one of the most elegantly written cash coins ever made (this emperor was an above-average artist and calligraphist and apparently prepared the models for his coins himself), they're very cheap and common.

I should perhaps amend that, to "1-cash coins are very cheap and common". Singles are 25mm diameter. Larger versions of the coin, with the same design, are scarcer and worth more.

Regarding the second "coin", the inscription on the portrait side translates as "Commemorating the 100th Birthday of Lu Xun, 1881-1981".

The portrait is of Lu Xun who was one of the most famous Chinese writers of the 20th Century.

The reverse side displays a famous quote of Lu Xun which translates as:

"Fierce-browed, I coolly defy a thousand pointing fingers. Head bowed, like a willing ox I serve the youngsters."
