I'm participating in a church camp and the theme is a african one, and I thought it'd be cool to give all the kids at the camp African coins.

Unfortunately my personal collection of world coins isn't up to par with what is needed so I started calling around to coin shops to see if they had unsorted world coins that I could sort through and buy. One store about 30m away said they had a bucket @ .25 each. Since I've never been to a store before I figure it might be fun to do , so I went.

2 hours later, I was quite disappointed in the African coins I found, however I did come home with the following :

1892 V nickel
1897 V nickel
1901 V nickel
1902 V nickel
1904 V nickel
1905 V nickel
1907 V nickel
1911 V nickel
1856 Large cent (Damaged)
1859 Large Canadian cent :)

Then 2 silver world coins worth about $2.50/ea on silver content.

Needless to say I'm going back in the future and sorting through his other buckets :)

congrats, glad you were still positive about the trip even though you didn't find what you were looking for.

You might find an ebay lot with what you're looking for. Another option is buying a bundle of Zimbabwe $1 billion bills. Some of those bills have images of African animals and trees and stuff. Might be cool for the kids.

Unfortunately I sent out several emails to coin dealers/companies trying to get a bulk lot of coins out on Sunday ( I needed them by this thursday) one finally got back with me TODAY saying that it was a 'extremely simple matter' and 'easy to do' however since it took 3 days, my time span is much shorter. Kids are still going to get african coins, but from my private stash and I'll have to severely limit things.
