Here are two fascinating varieties.
On the left, is my 25c 1872 repunched N in Canada, ICCS AU55 cleaned. Its the highest graded I've seen.
On the right, is a 25c 1872 repunched N in Canada WITH A over V in Victoria (or the famous 1872 A/V quarter), ICCS EF40, sold in the 2006 September Long Beach, CA auction for $1265.
Ironically, ICCS recognizes the die break (die damage)of the A/V but not the die variety of the repunched N, which IMO is MORE legitimate of a variety, and also more interesting. The die break is just later damage to this particular variety.
Would CCCS label this variety properly? I know ICCS wont.
Would it be worth trying to get Charlton to recognize it as a proper variety, or is that just a waste of time? I dont have any connections with the Charlton people, so I figure the odds are low.
