My great uncle sent me a bag of foreign coins. I got this 1938 half-penny and I saw it has a dot in the 8. I would like to have more info on it please (common error , price, etc) Here are the photos:

On a die, a number or letter with a hole has a post in relief(think negative image). Sometimes that little post can break off, leaving struck coins with a filled or partially filled digit and it is fairly common on older coins.
This has resulted from a small pit in the die, producing a raised dot within the figure 8. Such things have no significant commercial value and are commonly seen. It might ld be a different tale if the date number had been over-punched to alter the date on the die, as happened in earlier times quite often. Chris Wren
