A friend of mine (also a Canadian Coin Collector) is having his 70th birthday party this coming Sunday. I was thinking of giving him a 1970 P/L set. What would you recommend I give him?

I am assuming he was born in 1941(if my math is correct) why not a coin from that year, that would be awsome. I myself was born in 1948 (just saying)..  |

I agree that buying your buddy a set from his birth-year would be awesome ... unfortunately, because of WWII, Canada didn't mint very many coins during these war years (they didn't mint coin sets between 1939 and 1944) => actually, they didn't even mint Silver dollars in 1941 ...

All great suggestions! I will be checking my cents to quarters to see if I have nice duplicates that I could give him besides the p/l set. Something a little nicer than just a card.

I agree with a coin(s)for his birth date.He would love it if he is a collector. [HINT]:Remember this date everyone(my birthday) January 25 1945.  I would love a set from this year |

I recently got a Coleman cooler, full of beer, for my birthday. The heck with coins, I still think that was the best present ever... something my wife would never want or use!!

Nice idea, SPP-Ottawa => buy the guy 70 beer (3 x 24's and you get to drink the extra 2 bottles) ...
I'm thinking that an old skunky bottle of Molson Canadian from 1941 would be a very nasty present ...
Hey, but maybe try tracking-down an old bottle of scotch from 1941? (and tape that 1941 dime to the side of the bottle) => flawless

I think a newspaper from his city of birth, on the date of he was born. Or a old picture postcard date stamped the day of his birth with a picture of his birth city on it. |

I do like Canadian beer when I get to Canada - your right, the stuff here is brewed to USA standards which can change the whole taste. But I am going to stick with the coins.
