Hello,

I am pretty sure that this is a Y # 58 Ten Sen coin from Japan but need some help identifying the year of mint and the grade.

Thanks,

hm, I will wait for the real experts but if Krause is correct (and I think they are in this case) this was minted in 1938-1940 or Yr 13-15 of Hirohito. What has me a bit puzzled is that symbol to the left of the plus sign. It is not the symbol for 3 or 4 (which would have made this 1938 or 39) I've seen those coins and I know this is not them. so this 'has to be' the symbol for 5 in some sort of style that I've not seen. so I'm hoping some japan experts can shed some light.Value listed in Krause is $1.25 for VF, $2.25 for XF
Rest in Peace

Don't anyone DARE call me an expert, but the "plus" sign is kanji for 10, and, yes, that's a 5 to the left of it (top photo). This coin was minted only in Showa reign years 13-15, so this one is from 1940. (p. 305, "Modern World Coins", 14th edition).
