Hi, I'm a total novice at roman coins, or finds like that. But my neighbour just found 3 coins in his garden, and wonder if anyone could tell me if they are worth anything? or maybe rare, or anything like that? I know the chances of finding something rare is probly slim, but someone has to right? Identified - moved to Ancients forum - Sap

to the Community! I moved your post to the 'Identification: Unidentified Coins, Medals, and Tokens' forum. Hopefully someone there will know what it is you have.

Please forgive me for being a newbie, but I have no clue what that means.

I know someone who found a gold sovereign from digging in their garden and digging a bit more they found a second one. That would have been a nice story if it ended there, but it didn't. He thought he would dig a bit more, and just a bit more ... and eventually he dug up his whole garden and didn't find another thing. His desperate earthworks did give us all a laugh however, except his wife who was not laughing. Moral of the story. Better to be a hero for a day than the butt of a joke remembered for decades.

P75 to P175 depending on condition, that sounds cheap to me.

Apologies for the late reply to this thread; I always get distracted at the end of a month and can miss important threads. £75 to £175 would indeed be cheap for this coin. However, I should point out that you've stolen this picture from off the romanemperors.com website. I'm afraid we really need to see pictures or scans of your neighbour's actual coins to check authenticity and value. Something especially to watch for are the letters "WRL" stamped into one side or the other of your coins. That is the "mintmark" for Westair Reproductions Limited. I know WRL has made repros of these Ceasar "elephant" denarii.

Sap, sharp as a tack! At first glance, that coin looked well-preserved to be buried in damp soil over millenia.

To be fair, Andy did say it was a borrowed pic in the other thread, which has since been deleted.
