what am I missing here? these all look the same to me? I have half a dozen of the flying goose and I've studied them all closely and they all look the same to me except for varying degrees of lustre etc. I wish they had some arrows in the pics (like the great fotos with the small beads 1966 coin I've seen posted here. Sorry, I just don't get it.

Oh maybe that's why...when I go to that link just getting a note that bidding is over on the item and directed to another page, not getting to see the pic. Darn!

I personally saw 3 10 degree die rotation diving geese today. He was selling them for silver price. I decided not to buy them because of the 10 degree mint tolerence allowence. Something that suprized me is that when talking to the last dozen coin dealers, not one of them look for any varieties in coins. Not even the 1953 nickel mules.

George Manz Coins (online) seems to have all the different varieties and looks like they sell fast at any price, especially the premium coins.

If you ask George nicely, he'll probably post some photos for you.

Quote: what am I missing here? these all look the same to me? The gice all look the same. You're looking for the position of the goose when the queen (obverse side) is in normal position. Normally, when you flip a coin over (preferably in a holder so it doesn't turn) the other side is either rightside up, or upside down. If a coin has a rotated reverse the flip side will be out of position. All sorts of coins have rotated reverses, especially US half and large cents. Where "diving goose" comes in is if this particular coin is rotated 45°CCW, the geese nose points to 7:30 instead of 9 o'clock. "Diving goose" sounds more interesting than rotated 45°CCW.
