I am looking to organize an NFL contest (since we will actually be having a season this year!)
I am going to keep it simple (sounds complicated in explaining the rules but it really is simple):
Each week every player gets to choose 1 team as a straight up winner. No points, no over-under, just a team they think will win. The catch is that you can only pick each team once. When your chosen team loses you are done.
Example: Week 1 you pick the Philadelphia Eagles. If they win, then you get to continue and pick again the next week, BUT you cannot pick the Eagles again for the rest of the season. If the Eagles do not win (they lose or tie) then you are out of the contest.
You are also out of the contest if you fail to make a pick by the deadline each week or you pick a team you have previously used
No matter what game you are picking your picks must be in by Thursday by noon (Indiana time)
Each week I will post who is left and try to keep up with the teams that each person has picked.
I will send a prize to the winner and if everybody agrees I think it would be fun to have all participants send a small prize to the winner.
For now please post if you want to play and I will sign you up......sign up date will end on August 31st or when there are too many people for me to keep up with :)

One rules question: multiple people may pick the same teams in given week, correct? I ssume yes, since the number of players may be huge...

One more rules question, maybe I'm off in my thinking - with bye weeks, might it be possible that towards the end of the season, could a player reach a week where he can't select a playing team because those he has left are in the bye week? Maybe that's not mathmatically possible over 17 weeks?

Sounds fun. A sports radio station here in Philadelphia does this sort of game each year. It doesn't take long for the survivors to dwindle down to a few (and we're talking more than 10,000 at the start). There are some killer weeks in the schedule.

to clarify some questions:
1) I don't think it would be possible to have a bye week and not have any teams playing that week since the bye weeks are usually done early enough. however, if by some random chance that happens, then that person would get a bye until the next week. If they have any team available though that is playing they would be forced to take that team.
I think it will be fun because it is all about calculated risks. You have to take some chances in order to survive. Plus there always seems to be a week where there is a huge upset and half the players are gone
2) Your team choices are not affected by others. For instance 10 people can choose the Packers in any week (as long as none of them have selected the Packers before). However if the Packers lose then all 10 people are done.

Also, Pre-season does NOT count. The first selection will need to be in by Thursday Sept 8th by noon (Indiana time) in order to qualify for the first game of the year (remember 1 thursday night game and 2 Monday night games)
I will post updates and the matchups each week and then you can reply to this thread with your pick at any time before the Thursday deadline.
Once you post your choice you are locked in. No editing your post and no changing of teams, your first post that I get that week is your final choice.
