A photo would help. Some people soak in olive oil, some dip in acetone and some use Verdi-Care.

It all depends on the composition and the type of corrosion. Give us a picture showing an example of what you're talking about.

However, it should be stipulated that the Belt Sander belt be only a #140 grit or it will also take off some of the coins metal. And Dremel Tools and wire brushes also must be either Brass, Bronze or Coppper.

Does this coin have special meaning to you?

If not its very common, you could pick up a BU example for a couple dollars.

But if you just want to practice cleaning a coin with out damaging it do as Bad Thad would say and climb the ladder

Water soak
water and a safe soap
Iso-propyl 99.9% rubbing alcohol
Acetone
xylene?
Something else...

Usually if Acetone or Veridcare doesn't do it, I give up.

Honestly, it's not worth the time or effort. You can buy a full MS red example for a couple bucks. If you must though, VERDI-CARE should do the job.
