Not the greatest pics, plus they are through the plastic in the 2x2, but I had to hurry so have a go at it. Anything to prevent it from 64? The strike is much stronger than I have usually seen, with much of Ben's hair showing.

I notice that this coin has a couple of minor dark spots on it.

I am definitely not a specialist on these coins, but I guess that the amount of hair detail on top of Benji's head has an important bearing on the grade. This example is OK in this area.

BTW, I have yet to see much lettering detail on the bell on these coins.
Is that ALWAYS the case?

Yes, the lettering on the bell is always similar to this coin. I am not sure if there is an Franklin half where that writing is legible

I don't think the few carbon spots will take away from a MS-64. MS-63 at the worst.

Actually the lettering on the Bell is a bit better than normal. Hard to tell, it might have full bell lines. Honestly it is hard to tell from those photos. MS63 I think is a no brainer. If some of those marks are on the 2x2 then it could go 64.

If anything was to prevent MS 64 it would be the hits on the upper cheek
since that is in a focal spot. The carbon spots don't help either. Nice early franklin.
