I was wondering how to pick coins out of rolls. When you do can you tell me what to look for and what is the best way to look through the coins. To start off I would probably look through pennies.

You might want to first break them into groups, Wheaties, copper LMC (1959-1981) and then the Zincolns. If you are looking for varieties you might look at them all.

I always feel like their could be a better way, I do the same for all denominations, Coin by coin I look over and lay out by year. If theirs something of interest I put to the side to look at first. First line is 2000's, Next Line is 90's and so on so fourth. When I get all the coins dated. I then check the ones I put to the side, Then move on to the dates that are known to have variety's or errors. I search each coin in that date with a Stereo Scope. I enjoy the process but can't help but feel theirs a better way. Any advice. I've tried to just separate coppers but the feeling of missing something overwhelms me and I have to go back to above system. One of the problems I tend to run into is, I'll have all the coins dated. About 4 hrs worth and my little guy will find a way to destroy the little towers like hes Godzilla. I think I have to set a certain amount, then check.
CoinsandCoins theirs a few great refrences for Lincoln cents on past threads just search CCF.
Rest in Peace

Found these plastic trays made by Flambeau which are for fishing lures and fly's. The company claims the tray has a 5 year corrosion protection because they are coated with Zerust. I separate my cents by year/mint mark and especially the ones I know have some variety. Have the CherryPickers' Guide and Strike it Rich reference books and of course https://www.coopercoins.com. Found the trays at the local wal mart. Hope this helps.

I look at each penny as I go along. I have a list where I write what to look for on each date.
I seperate into copper from noncopper piles, and set aside the wheats or anyhting else I find, which isn't much.
I then clean those piles up after each roll. That way there isn't too much lying around at anytime. Maybe it isn't the
best way but it works for me. I dont' have the time or space to seperate all by years, etc. I just deal with it one roll at a
time. I never find anything good but I keep trying.

When I look ant my coins I usually use a magnifying glass 10x magnification. Would this be ok, or do I need something more powerful?
