I have this Alexandrian drachm though I have some other ancient Greek that (as I remember) are older. It's the only one for which I have a handy photo.

My collection is exclusively ancients (mostly Roman)/some medieval. Here is the oldest I've got: a Carthaginian bronze coin featuring the goddess Tanit on the obverse (obverse pic kind of sucks. I plan to reshoot it in the future), and a horse galloping on the reverse. Minted sometime in the early 4th century BC.

My oldest silver: Roman Republic denarius minted in 86 BC, under the moneyer L. Rubrius Dossenus, Rome mint:

Wow, there are some really old coins in this thread. I'm a pretty new collector and it will be a long time before I am confident enough to collect ancients. My current oldest coins are a 1876 British penny and a 1902 Liberty nickel that I found roll hunting. The nickel is about completely black on the obverse and heavily toned on the reverse.

Nice coins guys!
Metzger, I know of a good trusted dealer on ebay, who sells coins from the 1700's-1800's for very cheap.
And this would make up a good start for you.
Here is the link to his store:

Just format the price so only a maximum of 3$ per coins appear, and the magic begins :)
I have even taken ancients, medievals, and moderns to coin experts and had them authenticated.
So I can concluded the authenticity of his coins as positive :)

Technically, my current oldest "coin" is a yet-unattributed Olbia dolphin, circa 5th-4th century BC. I'm not sure if it csn be really considered as a coin though.
Next after it is a coin from Pantikapaion (sp?), circa late 3rd century BC if I attributed it correctly. It's certainly a coin, and it's certainly older than anything else I have (other than the dolphin one); but I'm not even sure what's the denomination.
Oldest dated, as well as oldest silver, is an 1517 Zweier from the Archbishopric of Salzburg; I have a few Russian wire kopeks that look a lot more archaic, but the oldest of these is from the 1530s.

In case you wonder why no pics: pics of the two ancients are in the "bought a few ancients" thread, but they're too huge and/or too awful to really work here; and as for the Zweier, I just got it last Saturday (as in June 22nd), so I didn't yet have time to get a pic of it only cost me $15 by the way.

...On the guy in Pharoew's post: he seems to think that "high grade" means VF and above, and occasionally even lower (seriously, I've seen an "unidentified High Grade coin" somewhere in there). The 1872 "shouldn't it be post-unification?" Mecklenburg-Schwerin 5 pfennig coin is really interesting though... shame that I don't have an ebay account!

I do not collect ancients, so I do not have any extremely old coin. My father, however, is somewhat of a specialist in this area. With his permission, this is his oldest coin - an electrum trite minted in Lydia under Croesus' father Alyattes. Time period minus 610 to minus 561.

I now have a few medievals posted in the "How Far Back can We Go" in this CCF section, but I'll post my oldest US coin (since that's my main focus):

Not "old" in the scheme of things posted here, but this is the earliest date I have:

Oldest dated coins are 2 Polish coins dated 1622. I also have a Roman coin that I know nothing about that says 3rd/4th century AD on the 2x2. Just for fun my oldest banknote is a German 100 mark note dated 1908. Found a couple German notes printed in 1923 which are 100 000 Marks (which is historically important because of its link with not only the German economy but the eventual War that followed). Oldest Canadian notes are 25 cents (shinplasters) from 1923.

Okay, so I was up at the farm and taking a look through my collection so I could catalog some more of it. I got the date and price I paid for the large cent wrong, having based my previous post on memory: 1808, paid $6. Still fair to AG-3, I would guess. Very faint what can still be seen of the date.
