Yesterday I bought a stack of British proof sets from a coin shop. All came in the original boxes and were priced between $3-$5 for most of them. Another was $15 (with an additional 30% discount) and still another was $21 (again with 30% discount). This is my question.
Is there any difference or varieties in the 1971 proof sets? The reason I ask is because I bought two 1971 proof sets yesterday. One was marked $21 and the other was marked $3. All in the same stack and same shop. The coins and boxes look the same with no problems. Yes, they are both proof sets. Here is the list of what I bought:
1970- $5 1971- $3 1971- $21 1979- $4 1979- $5 1981- $15 1982- $4 I also picked up a New Zealand set for $4
Without pics, it's hard to tell. The only obvious thing that comes to mind is that 1971 is the year the UK changed from L.S.D. to decimal currency. Do you have two entirely diferent sets? Even so, sounds like you may have a bargain. Bob
