I believe they did that with sample slabs. Freebies given out at shows and such.

That is odd now isn't it. Wonder if NGC is going to also start grading with REAL NICE or GREAT DETAILS.
Can't you see it now. A slab with WOW, THIS ONE IS GREAT accross the top.
Just might be from China where they copied what is usually on ebay.

I bet it's a mass-slabbing of common date Mercs for HSN or Coin Vault. I hope somebody got a 1942/41

DVCollector pretty much has it. They do this for the TV people, also they can come from other bulk submitters that specify a minimum grade. Those pieces that that don't meet the requested minimum can come back slabbed as Brilliant Uncirculated, and in some cases Almost Uncirculated.

What's the matter, nobody believes in the intrinsic value of interesting toning. This is why TPG are the runation of numismatics. Learn to grade the series you collect.
