Hi,

I wanted to obtain some opinions on these two recently acquired classic coins.

The cross sectional(rim) view of the 1833 shows the word, 'DOLLAR'.

The diameter and weight of the 1833 are respectively 33.48 mm and 12.85 g.

Also, what seems to be going on with the inner part of the 'C' of 50 C. ?

The other 1838 coin does not have an associated rim photo but its rim, however, clearly displays reeds without any associated letters.

The diameter and weight of the 1838 are respectively 30.09 mm and 13.19 g.

Please grade these two coins and express your opinion regarding the authenticity of each one.

Thank you,

mdpmedia

I see no reason to doubt authenticity of either.

1833: VG-8 maybe? O-108, I think, based on date location and "50C." The problem with the C looks like a post-mint hit which displaced metal. It happened early in the coin's circulation life, allowing circulation wear to blend it in enough to look almost "natural."

1838: VF-35, I think.

1833 VG10 obverse, G6/VG8 rev.

The rev on the 1833 looks well scrubbed if it would grade probably VG8.

1838 VF30/35 details, rim nicks would probably take it to VF25.

My guess.

I would say VG-8 on the 1833 and VF-35 on the 1838.
Rest in Peace
