The population of the 1928 Peace dollar, I think, is about 180K, or so that is what I have heard.

I think 360,649 was close to the original mintage number. The population I was referencing is what is estimated today. That number is about 188k, I think, It maybe more or less. The "life" of a coin is full of hazards. Lost, melted, destroyed in a fire, buried in a mason jar, between the cushions of the chair that went to the landfill, in between the seats of a car that has been crushed or rotting away in a junkyard, lost at sea, tossed in a fountain, tossed in a well etc, etc, etc....

There are more counterfeit 1928 Peace dollars than were minted real ones. For example 1923 made to look like an 8. Removing the S from the 1928-S.

The point is: not a lot were minted and maybe half of the ones minted are still "alive" today.

I think the life expectancy of a modern coin is supposed to be 25-30 years. Modern coins are tough alloys.

Thanks for defining the number you quoted. You never know what has been lost or melted in the past, I always go off the printed documented list although 188,000 sounds even better to me.

As far as genuine, that is why I went with a reputable TPG for the key date in this series. There are way to many fakes for this key date and I did buy from my local coin shop, not from online.

I am probably off on that number. Someone here, most likely, has a fairly accurate estimate of the current population.

I prefered to use Peace dollars as a skipping stone when I was a lil kid. This is what led to half of the minted peaces disappearing.

I am guessing you are trying to be funny. Is that the case? Or is it something else?
