Soooo ... I have a relatively expensive coin that I wished to liberate from it's plastic ...

Snapped a few photos to share the woodworkers method of cracking a slab ...

First ... you need the proper tools for any job ... this is my 1.5Hp Delta bandsaw.

Crack-A-Slab-...-The-Woodworkers-Method

Blade guard set and slab ready to go ...

Crack-A-Slab-...-The-Woodworkers-Method

Cut #1 removes the top of the slab ...

Crack-A-Slab-...-The-Woodworkers-Method

Cut #2 removes the bottom ...

Crack-A-Slab-...-The-Woodworkers-Method

Cut #3 removes the edges ...

Crack-A-Slab-...-The-Woodworkers-Method

Lifting the plastic off completes the task.

Total elapsed time approximately 20 seconds if I'm not stopping to snap photos.

Gotta love having the right tools for the job.

Enjoy

David

But isn't that when using a Chinese made saw with Chinese made blades?
I'll stick to a Dremel though.

I cringe whenever I see a bandsaw...it gives me flashbacks of our 8th grade shop teacher taking off his finger in front of the class.

Nice coin, by the way.

BPOC1, that video is a bit exgerated, maybe.
If you ever called the HP or AOL Help Desk, it goes to India. You would spend the rest of your life trying to get help since they have no idea what your saying.

No longer a laughing matter. Taiwan products are really OK and their so called Stainless Steel does really not stain.

I just cut a 1936D Lincoln Cent out of a slab purchased at a coin show today. Just used a vise, hack saw and poof, opened up. Really horrible that the only 36D I've been able to find in MS had to be in a slab.
