Hi,

I have this coin for a long time but I can't find out what kind of coin this could be.
Could anybody help me?

Alex

It is, unfortunately, a very oddly made replica of an ancient Roman coin, of emperor Marcus Aurelius. The flat, 2-D outline drawing of the emperor is in sharp contrast to the 3-D sculptured bust of a genuine second century Roman coin.

This coin is actually copied off of a silver coin, though many of the letters are garbled. Example of the silver coin here.

I suspect, given the oddly rendered details, that the coin was copied off of a drawing or old photograph of one of these coins, rather than off an actual coin. I have no idea where or when these replicas were made, but it's not the first time we've seen one here. Here's an old thread with another one just like it.

Thanks a lot, Sap!
Unfortunately, I can't recall when and how I obtained this coin, but it's really comforting to learn the story.
I will look at it with a different eye from now, even though it's being only a replica.
Extra thanks for the link to the original version!

Br,

Alex
