This is a very rare Billion cup coin (trachy) from my collection.

It is of Theodore Mankaphas ruled 1188-1189 and 1204-1205. Mankaphas is considered the first Bulgarian Tzar and is known as Theodore I Bulgun. There are only 100 of these coins known to exist.
Obv: Christ standing facing on dais.
Rev: Theodore standing facing holding cruciform sceptre.

Hope the images come out.
Ron

Cool!

While technically not "Byzantine" (Bulgaria isn't listed in the Sear Byzantine catalogue), it's certainly Byzantine in style.

What do the inscriptions say? On the reverse (picture theo2) I think I can read "+ODA BL", or something similar. Are the characters Byzantine-Greek, or were they using Cyrillic on the coins even at that early stage?
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
