Quote: I don't see how it can be considered AU as it shows absolutely no wear at all anywhere That may not be true. To me, the breast of the eagle may have some slight wear. As others have stated, you really need the coin in hand to make the judgment. It could be AU58, or MS63/64 details.

There was a reason the CuNi cents were known as "white cents" or as "nickels". I don't think you will be pleased with the coin when it arrives.

Due to so many commenting on the color, it may just be the type of lighting the seller was using. For details, I too would say in the middle MS grades. IF it's really that RED, I'd be a bit suspecious or it being real.

I tone it down for you. I know next to nothing about this series, but can this be a circulated proof?

I think it is just an AU piece that was dipped. Value should be $80 - $120 in this condition.
No way this is mint state... rub is very evident on both sides.

Next time you pay hundreds $ for a coin, buy it already graded by NGC or PCGS... you will know exactly what you are getting. Can you return it & hopefully you used PayPal so you can get your $ back.

I would say AU-58 details, altered surfaces. The surfaces definitely look messed with, possibly lightly polished. I agree there is a slight bit of wear, but the breast looks pretty strong compared to lower AU FEs. I think the reverse is too weak to be a circ proof.

I also agree with AU58 Details/altered surfaces. Definitely not original surfaces. Slight wear on eagles breast keeps it out of any MS designation.

Too bad to hear that its not what you bought but it still is a nice coin. I'd still return it though.

Ouch, I saw the ebay listing and end price. I'd return if you could.

Not sure exactly how many of those hundreds you paid but if there is return policy, you may want to consider that. It is, or was, a really nice, high definition coin but from what the photos indicate, makes it really look cleaned. If not returnable, you may want to just accept it as is and be happy with it for all the details.

you can return it, if used PayPal... get your $ back. It has been Cleaned/Dipped, so if listed did not state it was Cleaned/Dipped, you win case! Don't let seller rip-you-off = Like 'fenton' said... Posted 08/26/2011 I think it is just an AU piece that was dipped. Value should be $80 - $120 in this condition
