Bernanke said that the problems with the economy are beyond The Fed's ability to straighten them out. Just like I thought. He's saying that they had nothing to do with creating this mess and therefore can't do anything to repair it. He said that policy makers should keep the current situation in mind when passing legislation. He said nothing.

Knowing that policy makers keep their own salary & health/ retirement benefits in mind when proving to the world that they can't run a lemonade stand, gives not much hope then? Amazing times we live in, when one single individual can drop $5 Billion in pocket change on a broken bank, but your average citizen doesn't know how to pay their bills or get out of the gutter we've speculated and numbed ourselves into over the last 20 years.
