Hello All,
I am not to sure how many of you are aware of our site, MADdieclashes.com. Mike Diamond, Jason Cuvelier, Bob Piazza and myself run this free site and it is loaded with information not only on regular die clashes, but has all the exotic die clashes as well.

Just about every denominational coin that the U.S. Mint has made has been overlayed to help in identifying just where that clash mark is or is not. If there is one that is not available, just contact Jason Cuvelier or myself and we will do one for you.

We also have a section on foreign die clashes as well. So, if you do have an interesting die clash, please contact us about having it included into MADdieclashes.com.

Thank you,
BJ Neff

John try http://www.maddieclashes.com/

BJ, Awesome site, I just learned a lot for a novice. I have had a handful of cents that I wasn't sure if they were die chips or something else. Is it correct to say that those on the site are examples and aren't the only years out there?

I have an two 1989's that resembles CCL(TI)-1c-1989-01 one pictured below. Others with similar attributes from 91 & 99.

How about an opinion on the 1989 and are they worth anything?

Sorry about the link everyone. I guess tha MADdieclashes.com is the best way to go.

Okay to answer your question. The CCL designation is for an exotic die clash that is called a counter clash (Type I & II). Your picture seems to show a simple die clash that was accomplished in one event (one clashing of the dies).

I haven't got around to pricing die clashes for the added premium has more than a few conditions that can change its price. However, I can give you a guide to the least valuable up to the most valuable.

1. One side of the coin having an abraded die clash.
2. Two sides of a coin having abraded die clashes.
3. One side of a coin having an unabraded die clash.
4. One side of a coin having an unabraded die clash while the other side has an abraded die clash.
5. Two sides of the coin having unabraded die clashes.
6. Two die clash events on the same coin (the dies have clashed twice)both abraded.
7. Two die clash events on the same coin, both unabraded.

All the above are classified as TDC or Typical Die Clashes.

Our other grouping is ADC or Atypical die clashes and it contains all the exotic die clashes, such as; tilted die clashes, mule die clashes, counter clashes, rotated clashes, radical misaligned die clashes and others. This group commands a higher premium than the TDC group for the actions that create the ADC are more complicated and do not happen as often. Then we have to add in the denomination as well and then you can see just how complicated things can get determining a price for a die clash. Needless to say, some die clashes can be worth thousands of dollars (especially the mule die clashes of 1857.

I do hope that this gives you some insight what is going on in the world of die clashes. It is a fascinating world that has more than a few surprises.

BJ Neff, Jason Cuvelier, Mike Diamond and Bob Piazza, may I know if you offer attribution from outside the US?

Yes we do. If you can provide a picture of the coin in question, it would be a lot less time consuming than sending the coin to one of us.

Aside from US coins, do you also attribute foreign coins?
