Here we go. Sounds like a way for the government to get some free money. Kind of like Great Britain and the safety deposit box deal.

Quote: Our advice to concerned terrorists in possession of these coins is to either get a shovel, get them out of the United States (and even then you may not be safe under international treaties), or head to a smelter. Not getting it. What Liberty Dollars?

They are Liberty Dollars made by NORFED. The guy made several designs of silver, gold, and copper coins that the courts deemed counterfeit ( unjustly in my mind ). They confiscated millions of dollars of the coins and blank planchets too. Probably the most famous is the Ron Paul Dollars. He messed up by putting the word dollar on them, although they don't even remotely resemble any U.S. coins.

The greatest form of domestic terrorism is the amount of greenbacks in circulation. Root of all evil.
Honestly, I think the counterfeiters at BEP and the FRS are feeling threatened by real money and competition. Doesn't this fact mean that these coins ARE legal tender, which is why they are being persued? If you had a monopoly on the issuance of money, why would these liberty dollars make one scared - because the FRS knows that they themselves are fraudsters and anybody could print and issue money? Why else would they feel threatened?

I still can't figure out why the APMEX dime coin is safe from this absurd position. Isn't a dime a 1/10th unit of a dollar?

Good article Ron Paul. Thanks for posting it. I actually registered for the Webonair being touted by Mike Dillard to the right of the article. It is free, and looks very interesting...
Of course he's preaching to the choir. (me)
As Bob Dylan said years ago... It's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a HARD rain a gonna fall...

I guess the key is what's appear on the coin, not what it's being called. APMEX doesn't display any denomination/unit on the coin design but the unit in oz and purity....

I am afraid that we must all face the facts in this case. The government has labeled Mr. Bernard von NotHaus as a terrorist and I must agree. Clearly, he has terrorized the government. His issuance of money with REAL value vs. the trash that the Fed pumps out of thin air by the trillions and trillions must really have them quaking in shear terror. What will be next? Americans actually thinking for themselves AND <gasp!> speaking out about it? Oh, the horror!

This akin to the banning of gold ownership in the US from the mid-30s to the early 60s when it was legalized again. If the Feds had seized every privately owned gold coins during this period, there would only be the national collection and the gold stockpiles in Kentucky and Denver now. Eventually cooler heads will prevail, owning a "liberty" dollar does not constitute a threat to the US money supply nor to US security. Y'all can take yours to a smelter, these are just curiosities and oddities in the annals of US commerce.

I have a half ounce Ron Paul that I spent my ebay bucks on. It cost me three dollars, so not only is it contraband, it was by far my best cost in on any of my PM's. A coincidence? I think not. He showed amazing vision in denominating the coins. A quarter ounce of gold is a $500 piece. Pretty close.

IMHO a great ending to what was nothing more than a pyramid selling scheme.

OMG! We've got criminals on the forum. I dropped my ANA sometime ago, they seem to be straying from the hobby and more to politics. Someone in D.C. has too much time and money on their hands. Great article.
