Check out the pictures for the 1/10 gold Eagle.

I'm not sure I'm ready to spend $75 for a coin that's been in this guy's hand.

Ok, stupid question. I have seen this on numerous ebay items and I have kept away from them. Especially being new to collecting. However, I do want to know if there is a way to just "wipe" down the coin without affecting it in any way shape or form to try to at least get any detrimental finger prints etc off of the coins that someone handles like this? PLain old Kleenex, alcohol wipes, etc, or just put it in a 2X2 and hope for the best...Sorry for my ignorance on this. Kind of goes with the "cleaning coins" topic I guess, but certainly not that dirty.....

I think you could find another 1/10th Eagle on ebay. One that doesn't come with the added bonus of prints on it.

When it comes to Unc and proof coins:
wipe the coin, ruin the surface.

Few non-numismatists appreciate the fact that what makes new coins appear shiny (luster) is not the result of polishing the coin, but the result of microscopic flow lines resulting from the minting process. Clean the coin and destroy the lines, destroying the value. I wish this were easier to get to the fringes of the hobby.

Thank you Texas. I was unsure if a delicate cloth would in fact create havoc on a coin, and apparently it does.

Best regards,

Tighe

Great reply Tex. I know what causes luster, but the way you put it is simply simple. Thanks! And yes, even a delicate cloth would ruin the coin as some of the marks it leaves would be visible under magnification. As far as havoc goes, I have found that under magnification I can see a tremendous amount more than I can with the naked eye or a picture. This is of course a problem on ebay and also why great feedback is so important.

I was curious this coin says it is uncirculated though isn't it that once the coin is touched by raw human hands it becomes circulated ? Would seem to me it is now not uncirculated.
